EPA National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP)
The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP) is a certification program that is used to evaluate and certify the competency and credibility of laboratories that test for the presence of lead in drinking water. Lead is a toxic metal that can have serious health impacts, and it is important to accurately measure the levels of lead in drinking water to ensure that it is safe for consumption.
To obtain NLLAP accreditation, a laboratory must demonstrate that it has the necessary facilities, equipment, and personnel to perform accurate and reliable testing for lead in drinking water. This may include demonstrating that the laboratory follows established protocols and procedures, that it has a quality management system in place, and that it is able to produce valid and reliable test results.
NLLAP accreditation can be beneficial for several reasons. It can help to demonstrate the competency and credibility of the laboratory to regulatory bodies, customers, and other stakeholders, and may be required in order to qualify for certain contracts or business opportunities. Accreditation can also help to improve the quality and reliability of the laboratory's testing services, and may lead to increased confidence in the test results produced.
U.S Accreditation has applied for formal recognition as an accreditation agency working in partnership with the National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP) to accredit leading (Pb) testing organizations.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) formally recognizes U.S. Accreditation Inc. as an accreditation body working in cooperation with the EPA National Lead (Pb) Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP) to accredit lead (Pb) testing bodies. Organizations seeking inclusion on the NLLAP-approved list must comply with ISO/IEC 17025 and the NLLAP Laboratory Quality System Requirements.
This specialty program is covered under the U.S. Accreditation environmental field of testing.
