BIFMA Compliant Program

BIFMA (Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association) Compliant is a certification program that is used to evaluate and certify the safety, durability, and performance of office furniture products. The program is operated by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), an industry trade group that represents manufacturers of office furniture products.

BIFMA Compliant Program

To obtain BIFMA Compliant certification, a manufacturer must submit its products for testing to an independent laboratory that is accredited by BIFMA. The laboratory will evaluate the products using a variety of performance criteria, including strength, stability, and safety, and will issue a report indicating whether the products meet the program's requirements.

Obtaining BIFMA Compliant certification can be beneficial for several reasons. It can help to demonstrate the safety, durability, and performance of a manufacturer's products to customers, and may lead to increased customer satisfaction and trust. BIFMA Compliant certification can also help a manufacturer to qualify for certain contracts or business opportunities that require compliance with the program's standards. Additionally, obtaining BIFMA Compliant certification may help a manufacturer to comply with certain regulatory requirements or industry standards.

The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) launched BIFMA Compliant, a branded conformance program, on March 1, 2021. BIFMA Compliant offers a publicly accessible registry of furniture products that conform to BIFMA safety and durability standards.

Prior to being added to the BIFMA Compliant program registry product testing must be conducted by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory with the relevant BIFMA standards included on the Scope of Accreditation. Accreditation to these BIFMA standards is covered under our mechanical field of testing.
